What Makes Some People So Angry?

Saturday, January 22, 2011
You know the people I'm talking about. They blow up every time life gets stressful and seem to enjoy taking out their frustrations on others. No one likes a hot head, so here's some information that may help you deal with them.

It may be hard but it's usually helpful to try and figure out what the person is saying. This will help you decipher what the real problem is. Sometimes the source of the disagreement is far from what the angry person is complaining about. Don't try to solve the problem without having a clear understanding of what's going on. That will help you to remain calm and seek a suitable solution. It's important for you to stay calm under no matter what. If you get upset it will just escalate the situation. Don't make the situation worse by assigning blame at that time. Wait until you hear everyone out before you find someone at fault. Look for a reasonable solution first. Be aware that people don't always act rationally when they are angry.

Avoid antagonizing those involved by criticizing. This doesn't help matters, in fact it can make things worse. You never know if one or both of the parties involved in the dispute has the potential to turn violent. Be clear about what you want the outcome to be. It may not be scrupulous, but you may be able to use the disagreement to your advantage, particularly in a business setting. If you do try to work things to your advantage, you should know that you're playing with fire. The situation can backfire and you could end up looking like the bad guy. It's best just to diffuse the argument by being calm and hearing everyone out. Then wait awhile and address the points made to find a suitable resolution.
